As the leaves start to fall and completely overtake my yard the urge to drink hot chocolate by the fireplace is getting stronger and stronger. I’ve already started to collect wood every time the temperature drops only to be disappointed when the heat shows it’s ugly little face. The ebb and flow of fall temperatures is frustrating at times but the sweet relief of the north winds will be worth the wait. As I’ve be preparing for this glorious season I took a look into my fireplace. We have a fancy decorative black spark guard on it so I didn't notice that we had left ashes from last season in there all this time. After a good 45 minutes with the shop vac it started to look like a clean fireplace ready for some action. After I spent all this time cleaning out the fireplace I wondered if we should have the chimney swept. Automatically I had visions of Mary Poppins and old fashioned chimney sweeps come to mind. After spending about 10 minutes on Google I found this: The National Fire Protection Association Standard 211 says, "Chimneys, fireplaces, and vents shall be inspected at least once a year for soundness, freedom from deposits, and correct clearances. Cleaning, maintenance, and repairs shall be done if necessary." “Once a year” has not been our schedule of maintenance. It’s been years since we’ve had our chimney swept. It was time for me to go back to the Google and find a professional chimney sweep and hopefully they wear a top hat! I found a company called Chimney Sweep Boise and they came out to take care of the job. These guys were great and they took the time to explain everything to me and I give them five stars or thumbs up for great service! The guys even gave me great advice and listened to all of my questions concerning painting my fireplace. They did a great job keeping everything in the house protected from the dark soot that filled the chimney. While they were here the sight of the black as night charcoal caught my attention and my creative side had to make an appearance! Yes, even the time spent cleaning and repairing your chimney can be a time of inspiration. I asked if I could use some of the soot for art purposes and they gladly supplied me with my own black dust. This is what I came up with: I’m convinced that Chimney Sweep Boise is the most professional chimney sweep in all of Idaho! Thanks guys for keeping my family safe!
